Chris Hadfield endorses “Now That I’m Here”

Sunday, May 1st, 2016—News

Astronaut and overall extraordinary human being (and Kickass Canadian!) Chris Hadfield has endorsed my upcoming children’s book, Now That I’m Here:

Now That I’m Here is a touching, helpful book for all of us who deal with illness growing up. A lovely, sad, good and loving tribute that gives hope and strength where it’s needed most.”

Thank you so much, Chris!

Published through my shingle, Wonderpress, Now That I’m Here is a tribute to young Kate Drury and will raise funds for the CHEO Research Institute in support of research into SIFD, the type of mitochondrial disease she suffered from. It will be available for print-on-demand orders, in English and French, this September 2016, in time for Global Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week.

Here’s a look at one of the illustrations in progress, by the gifted Karem Laguna:

I wrote it as a tribute to a young girl from Ottawa name Kate Drury, who passed away last year from mitochondrial disease. The book will be available for print-on-demand orders, in English and French, this September 2016, in time for Global Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week. All profits will go to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute.

Sharing in CARE Canada’s Giving Season

Friday, December 5th, 2014—News

In the true spirit of the season, CARE Canada celebrates the many ways we can give back with meaning. They invited me to write a post about my fundraising and volunteering experiences, which I was happy to do. Partnering with CARE has been a wonderful development in my life, and I hope it’s brought a lot to the people who benefit from the organization’s support. Happy Giving Season!

Fab YYC expands to form Fabulous Alberta project

Friday, August 22nd, 2014—News

In developing Fab YYC, Kickass Canadian Yiorgos Boudouris received so many great stories from Calgary’s LGBTQ community that he realized he wanted to expand the boundaries of his initiative. So he morphed Fab YYC into the Fabulous Alberta project, which will feature the 15 Calgarians already captured (in writing by me, and by stunning photography from Kelly Hofer), as well as 85 more subjects from across Alberta’s LGBTQ community.

To learn more or to support the project, check out Yiorgos’ Kickstarter campaign. You can also read about Fabulous Alberta in today’s Calgary Herald article on Kelly.

Very excited to see how this evolves! And so proud to be involved.
